The Square Yard Project

The Square Yard Project is an opportunity to share our love of flax and build community.

This inclusive art and education project is open to all.

It started with a conversation about square yards and square meters, and it’s growing into an international textiles art collaboration. We’re working with Journeys in DesignScotland, who we connected with in 2021 through their program, Our Linen Stories. See the ways you can participate below and stay tuned for more about the collaboration.

Become a Flax Friend

Do you have a square yard (36" x 36") of garden space and an interest in getting to know fiber flax up close? Are you someone who wants to get involved in our efforts and support our project in a meaningful way?

Becoming a flax friend includes:

  • Printed and digital educational materials about how to grow, harvest and prepare your flax for processing.

  • Several flax processing workshops (locations TBD) where we will provide hand tools and teach you how to turn your straw into gold

  • Inclusion in our Square yard quilt project

Become a Flax Friend today and we’ll be in touch about getting you flax seed for planting. Thank you for your support!

To begin, we’re working with photos of square yards/meters of flax growing in Pennsylvania and in Scotland. We will create both digital and physical quilt patterns inspired by these photos. Share a photo of your flax to be included!
